Canon PowerShot S5 IS Review at CNET

Canon POwershot
Canon PowerShot S5 IS Review at CNET, “The S5 IS’ performance splits right down the middle. It delivers very good speed for its class. It wakes up and shoots in 1.3 seconds, with a shutter lag of 0.5 and 0.8 second in bright and dim light, respectively. It can shoot consecutive single images 1.6 seconds apart, growing to a reasonable 2.1 seconds with flash enabled. Continuous shooting is fixed at about 1.5 frames per second (fps), regardless of image size, and can run for about 18 shots before it starts to slow.”

I am a professional photographer and studio owner. I use a Canon 40d and 20d with a Rebel xti as a back up in the studio and on location. I bought this camera to keep in my car so I would never be without a camera. The Eos line of cameras are too bulky to keep with me at all times but I have been reluctant to keep a point and shoot with me just because of the lack of control and quality. This camera is amazing. It gives me full control to shoot in any of the advanced modes including full manual. The prints that it produces are really impressive. I have to admit that I wouldn’t go over 200 iso unless I absolutely had to because of the small sensor size. This camera also enables me to use my 580 ex speed light on the hot shoe. In addition you can take surprisingly good video for such a camera as this. As a matter of fact I actually did a film project on poverty in my hometown and posted it to youtube. I have a hi-definition video camera but this wasn’t a paying job and I wanted to see what the camera would do. With a two gig card installed I think you can shoot 30 min. or an hour. Not sure which. Anyway…..I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone.
