Google SketchUp is a software which makes creation, modification and sharing of 3D models, a child’s play. This software is the easiest of all the 3D modeling software’s. This is the main reason why so many people are using this software. There are 2 versions of Google SketchUp one is a freeware and the other Google SketchUp Pro, a commercial software. This review is about Google SketchUp, a freeware.

I’m not a 3D model designer. I have no prior experience of 3D modeling. I downloaded the Google SketchUp and began using it. The first thing that I felt is the nice and uncluttered interface which is rare in case of 3D modeling software’s.

The fully integrated help system aka Learning Centre makes the task of learning Google SketchUp, a snap. There are lots of free Video tutorials available and can be accessed via Help>>Video Tutorials. Not only Video tut’s, there are lots of other ways to learn Google SketchUp. To be frank, you don’t even need all these tutorials .You can learn to work with this software by yourself; it’s so easy to do 3D modeling with this software.

Doesn’t require high system requirements which is common in case of 3D software’s

Excellent help system makes learning process, a breeze

Lots of video tutorials, pre designed sample models and designs, PDF books are available for this software

Cons

The free version cannot models export to 3D formats like VRML or DWG

The free version cannot export an animation

Final touch: I recommend this software. This software has made common people to take interest in 3D modeling. This software is giving an intense competition to expensive commercial packages available.Though there are some features which are not present in free version but are present in PRO version, the free version of the software is still rich in features…..
